油缸必须严格按按术要求安装牢固可靠，不得有任何松动。安装往复式油缸时，应做到以下几点：
1、安装前，必须仔细检查轴端、孔琐等处的加工质量，倒角并清除毛刺，然后用煤油或汽油清洗并吹干。
2、安装面与活塞的滑动面，应保持一定的平行度和垂直度。
3、油缸中心线应与负载力的作用线同心，以避免引起例向力。否则密封体或活塞易磨损。
4、活塞杆端销孔应与耳环销孔(或耳轴)方向一致，否则油缸将受以耳轴为支点的弯曲负载，产生磨损、卡死等现象。
5、在行程较大、环境温度较高的场合，油缸只能一端固定，另一端保持自由伸缩状态，以防热胀而引起缸体变形。
6、行程较大的油缸，应在缸体和活塞杆中部设置支承，以防自重产生向下弯曲现象。
7、油缸的密封圈不要装得太紧，特别是u型密封团，如果太紧，则活塞杆的运动阻力将增大。
