Turboprop (komb. aus: Turbine u. Propeller) ist eine landläufige Bezeichnung für Propellerturbinentriebwerk (auch als PTL bezeichnet). Flugzeuge mit diesem Triebwerk sind auf Fluggeschwindigkeiten bis zu etwa 80 Prozent der Schallgeschwindigkeit (0,8 Mach etwa 870 km/h) beschränkt. In diesem Geschwindigkeitsbereich arbeiten Turboprops auch wirtschaftlicher als reine Turbinentriebwerke.

Il motore turboelica costituisce una tipologia di turbina a gas. Differisce dal motore a getto in quanto è progettato per produrre la potenza attraverso la rotazione di un albero e non con la spinta dei gas di scarico. In altre parole la potenza del motore aziona un albero al quale è collegata un'elica.
