에어버스 A380은 유럽 연합의 에어버스가 제작하는 2층 구조의 초대형 항공기이다. 대형 항공기 시장을 독점하고 있는 보잉 사의 보잉 747 항공기에 대항하기 위해 2000년 12월 19일에 개발에 착수하여, 2005년 4월 27일 프랑스 툴루즈에서 처녀 비행을 성공적으로 마쳤으나 실질적인 상업비행은 연기되어 2007년으로 예정되어 있다. 개발 과정 동안 '에어버스 A3XX'로 알려져 있었으며 '수퍼점보'라는 별명을 가지고 있다.
비 행기의 2층은 동체 일부만이 아니라 동체 전체에 걸쳐 있다. 이를 통해 종전까지 가장 큰 비행기에 비해 50% 가량 공간이 넓어진 객실을 마련할 수 있었는데, 흔히 알려진 3가지 종류(퍼스트-비지니스-이코노미)로 좌석배치를 구성할 경우 555석, 전체를 이코노미석으로만 배치할 경우 853석의 좌석을 마련할 수 있다. 현재 A380 기종에는 두가지 종류가 있는데, 종전의 보잉 747 기를 제치고 세계에서 가장 큰 여객기가 된 A380-800 모델과, Antonov An-225 기종을 제외하면 사실상 가장 큰 적재 공간을 지닌 화물기인 A380-800F 모델이다.
A380-800 모델은 최대 15,000 킬로미터를 비행할 수 있으며, 최고속도는 보잉 747과 비슷한 마하 0.85 (약 시속 900km)이다.
대한민국의 경우, 2006년 11월 15일에 ROUTE PROVING차 인천국제공항을 방문하였다. 대한항공과 아시아나항공에서 도입을 추진하고 있다.
