刀片飞脱的可转位铣刀是国内某知名厂商生产的直径100mm的面铣刀。
山东大学在使用该铣刀安装单刀片进行切削试验时，在转速增加到5000r/min时，仅有的一个刀片在离心力超过锲块摩擦力的情况下飞离了刀体，击打在机床的防护钢板上。而苏州的一个用户则比较不幸，他们的刀具破碎后碎片击中了机床的防弹玻璃，结果是玻璃被完全击碎。
那么，高速加工的刀具为什么会有如此大的破坏能力呢？我们作了如下的简要分析。如果一个直径40mm的可转位铣刀以40000r/min的转速进行加工， 其线速度为5024m/min，即83.7m/s，以刀片重量0.015kg计算，其动量为1.26 kg·m/s。这一结果与一著名的微声手枪子弹的出膛动量相当(该手枪子弹弹头重量约0.005kg，出膛初速度为230m/s，因此动量为1.20 kg·m/s)。
