日 本東京大學野田優準教授與研究所學生長谷川馨發表聲明，指其開發出 可穩定地製作粗度比原先大三倍的高科技材料－筒狀碳素分子「奈米碳管」的方式。研究團隊發現將奈米碳管延長後，碳管就會變粗的現象。如果粗型的碳管能夠量 產的話，便能夠大量萃取出可治療患部的蛋白質並注入體內，或是用於新世代電子元件材料加工用途方面，希望早日能夠確立此新技術。

奈 米碳管的新製法是將碳元素做成的薄片捲成筒狀，成為「單層奈米碳管」。然後在氧化鋁(alumina)材料表面灑 滿直徑約2奈米的鐵粒子，再加入乙烯氣體並加熱至攝氏800度。將鐵粒子當作觸媒，奈米碳管便從一顆顆粒子的表面，像是草皮一樣生長出來，約十分鐘的時間 就能達到平均0.8公厘的長度。 如以電子顯微鏡來觀察奈米碳管，發現其根部的直徑最大達到5奈米程度，尖端部分的直徑平均則為1.7奈米，因此可得知隨著奈米碳管的成長，其根部便會膨脹；而以往的奈米碳管則是如同吸管般、以相同的粗度延展。 奈米碳管的根部之所以會膨脹的原因，推測是由於基板上的鐵粒子因高溫而聚集、奈米碳管因此就在變大的粒子上持續不斷地成長。如果能夠控制溫度使鐵粒子保持一定大小的話，就有可能量產製作直徑最大達10奈米水準的單層奈米碳管。 研究團隊製作的奈米碳管，有一部分的側面被壓碎且形成重疊的兩片所謂「石墨烯」(Graphene)薄片，而石墨烯則是被視為新世代電子元件中相當重要的材料。 奈米碳管除了單層外，另還有兩層、三層、多層等類型。構造單純的單層奈米碳管雖然受到注目，但是缺點為粗度平均只有1.5奈米、有著過細的問題。如果為了要使奈米碳管變粗而使用大粒的鐵粒子作為觸媒的話，就沒辦法製作出單層的奈米碳管了。 |
