耐酸不锈钢的塑性和韧性都很大，钻孔时存在的主要问题是不容易断屑，影响切削液的流入，切削区温度高，刀具耐用度低，生产率低。在钻孔时，切削负荷大，形 成切屑要消耗很多的能量，再加上这类不锈钢的高温强度和硬度高，钻屑在切离时不易折断；同时冷作硬化现象非常严重，表面硬化程度可达100%以上，硬化层 厚度达0.1～0.2mm。耐酸不锈钢的导热系数小，只有碳钢的1/3～1/4，切削区温度很高，与其他金属的亲和作用强以及材料中存在的硬质点，加剧了 刀具的磨损。
为了解决耐酸不锈钢钻孔时的断屑问题，研制了新型钻耐酸不锈钢断屑群钻，用它钻孔时切屑长100mm左右呈“礼花”状从孔中排出，断屑效果十分理想。
在钻孔过程中要出这种切屑的关键是：一要使分屑点处于临界分屑状态；二要适当磨出钻尖高(h=0.05D～0.07D)和圆弧半径(R=0.2D)；三是 L1=1.7～3.3 mm位置应选择恰当，并配合适当大的进给量和较低的切削速度，使切屑在斜拧状态中折断。
使用耐酸不锈钢断屑群钻钻孔时，应选用较低的切削速度和较大的进给量，有利于实现断屑。
