全球體積最大的巨無霸客機空中巴士A380客機，27日在法國進行處女航試飛，吸引數千人湧入南部土魯斯試飛機場見證歷史。
空 中巴士A380客機27日在法國土魯斯首航試飛。A380空中超級巨無霸客機，是空中巴士集團用來擊敗美國波音747型客機的利器，航程達1萬 5000公里，可乘坐555名乘客，最大載客量為800個座位﹔機身全長73公尺，寬79.8公尺，機尾高度24公尺，相當於七層樓高﹔機艙內部寬 6.58公尺，分上下兩層。A380機艙空間寬廣，地板總面積比波音747足足多出了49%，甚至可以在機艙內設置商店，酒吧和賭場等休閒設施。
相較之下，波音747客機座位416個，機身長70.7公尺，高度19.4公尺，寬64.4公尺，機艙內部寬6.1公尺，比大，比寬，比氣派都比不上A380。
根 據空中巴士的說法，A380雖然比747還龐大，但是測試油耗卻比747省13%，平均每人100公里飛行行程油耗不到3公升，空巴說，這是全球第一台 單體客機達到這個目標，油耗跟一般家庭房車差不多。空巴表示，省油主要是因為機身大量採用碳纖維材質和省油技術，也因此每名乘客的平均成本比747低 20%，意味著未來A380的票價可以比較便宜。
A380為空巴和波音的空中競爭再添一頁。波音的因應措施則是不與空巴比大，轉而發展長程客機7E7夢幻客機（7E7 Dreamliner），在載客量見長的747機型，則更新機艙規劃，以便能容納450個座位。
為了因應未來A380投入營運，許多機場也必須計劃更新設備，例如提供能讓五百人上下機的雙層樓梯，以及容納龐大旅客行李的輸送設備。這一點也被波音拿來批評A380，認為如此龐大的客機，全球很少機場可以應付。
A380 客機光是飛機造價就達2億8000萬美元，整個研發計劃斥資約5020億台幣，超出原本的預算達將進600億台幣。儘管耗資龐大，空中巴 士表示，目前已經收到154架訂單，他們有信心可以在2008年達到250架的損益平衡目標數量。下單購買A380的航空公司中，包括中國。
空中巴士集團由英國航太系統（BAE Systems）和法國EADS公司共同控股，股份各佔20%和80%。而A380的十年投產計劃，法國，英國，德國和西班牙都是主要投資者。
