Hard Turning refers to the process of single point cutting of hardened pieces within the 2 micron range with hardness between 58 and 62 HRC. Hard turning has proven to be worthy alternative to the more expensive and cost consuming grinding. The main advantages of hard turning compared to grinding:

(1)采用人造大理石床身设计，减震性能和热稳定性都非常好。埃马克 VL 系列和VSC 系列采用了高级矿物料浇铸而成的车身，与灰铸铁床身相比，减震效果高出6-8 倍，床身静动态平衡卓越，热稳定性能出色，与传统材料的床身相比，产品的表面光洁度好，刀具寿命更长。机床采用桥式框架结构，高架滑台安装在床身上方并承 载着立式主轴，所以受力非常均匀，刚性极佳。两个回路的致冷机组可使机床温度与环境温度保持十分接近，从而消除了因温度波动而引起的精度误差。
(2) 采用倒立式的机床设计，排屑非常方便，而且机床的导轨、光栅尺、主轴电机、带套筒的主轴、刀塔、电器柜等重要部件都在工作区的上方，落屑朝下，不会受到铁 屑的影响，因而对刀具寿命的提高及产品表面光洁度和几何尺寸都非常有帮助。
(3)机床配置了自动上下料系统，减少了人工操作的强度和误 差，减少了投资成本。
(4)机床的主轴功率和扭矩都非常大，因此该机床既能做粗加工，也能做精加工，既可以硬车，也能做软车，且都能满足 高精度、高表面质量的要求。用户之前选用磨床对图示零件进行加工。当得知EMAG 的VL5 机床“以车代磨”工艺后, 通过比较设备投资、日常生产消耗、加工效率等多方因素签，用户最终选择了EMAG 的VL5， 结果不仅达到预期的表面加工质量要求，内孔直径公差达到Cmk1.67 以上。 而且提高加工效率一倍多， 极大的降低了工件成本。EMAG 埃马克VL、VSC 系列加工的齿轮内孔不仅尺寸精度高, 表面光洁, 同时节约一半以上的投资成本。
