Organized by TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) & TAMI (Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry), TIMTOS 2007 closed on March 17th with great success. During this six-day exhibition held at TWTC Exhibition Halls 1 (including 2nd floor), 2 and 3, around 80,000 visitors witnessed the biennial global gala of machine tool technology. All the exhibitors interviewed including Rotar Machinery Ind. Co., Long Chang Machinery Co., Keyarrow (Taiwan) Co., Chia Lern Co., and Ping Jeng Machinery Ind. Co. showed satisfaction toward the result of the show. Moreover, She Hong Ind. Co. and Taiho Tool Mfg. Co. emphasized that both companies were expecting a breakthrough 10 % sales growth. Mr. Chris Koepher, Chief Editor of Modern Machine Shop Magazine, surprisingly said that he was very impressed by the enormous scale of the event and the advanced technology displayed at the show. He also mentioned that it’s amazing to see so many newly developed high precision and high efficiency machinery in a single event. Mr. Jose Goncalves, publisher of MeM Magazine, in his maiden voyage to Taiwan, pointed out that the vast size of TIMTOS and the high-level products reversed his original thought about the show. He indicated that the show not only fully demonstrated enriched product categories and advanced automatic technology, but also set a good example for reasonable price.
TIMTOS 2007 attracted a total of 4,180 foreign visitors from 88 countries including Japan, Korea, Malaysia, U.S.A., China, Thailand, India, Turkey, Singapore, and H.K., an increase of 17.75 % compared to last show in 2005.

Categories of machine tools arrayed included the best in state of the art metal-cutting machines, metal-forming machines, machine tool parts & accessories, tools & cutters, measuring, inspecting and testing equipment and much more. A record 713 exhibitors (up 10.5 % over the last show) occupied record-breaking 2,778 booths, growing 4.3 % from the previous edition in 2005 to show their latest and breakthrough products. The show line-up included such big names as Leadwell CNC Machines Mfg. (lathe & milling machining center), Creator Precision Co. (CNC electric discharge machine, CNC wire cutter), Tailift Co., (arctic hare forklift truck), Far East Machinery Co. (vertical aluminum wheel processing machinery), Ching Hung (high precision & Isothermal bridge-type CNC wire cut electric discharge machine tool), Fulland Machinery Co. (five-axis machining center), The Swiss National Pavilion (high-precision machinery), DMG (CNC milling machine), Heidenhain (industrial numerical controller, machine tool accessories), Sony Taiwan Ltd. (precision measuring equipment), Okuma (CNC lathe), Mitsubishi (industrial numerical controller, machine tool accessories), Sodick (CNC electric discharge machine), Fanuc (numerical controller, CNC wire cutter) to offer the best in quality and innovation.
Taipei Int’l Machine Tool Show ranks one of the top three in Asia and keeps expanding every year; therefore, the limited space of the TWTC Exhibition Hall can no longer accommodate all the exhibitors. After the inauguration of the Nan-Gang Exhibition Hall with space as double as that of TWTC Exhibition Hall next year, this long-term problem is likely to be solved. Next show scheduled in March 2009 will span the TWTC Exhibition Hall as well as the Nan-Gang Exhibition Hall to reach the scale of 5,000 booths.
In face of the fierce competition from China and South Korea, Taiwan’s machine tool industry must stick to its competitiveness; thus, TAITRA, organizer of the next TIMTOS in 2009, will work together even more closely with its 45 overseas branch offices to promote the show by aiming at the increase of foreign visitors, especially machine tool agents from Japan to create more business opportunities for machine tool industry and to keep setting new records for TIMTOS.
